FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Local author combines humor, grief, camping in debut novel
WEST SACRAMENTO, CA – Following the lives of five friends over 20 years, Vince Wetzel’s debut novel “Friends in Low Place” is set for release on April 20 with a book launch party planned in June.
Local readers will enjoy the local characters of Friends in Low Places. Sacramento plays a prominent part in these character’s lives. They met in elementary school, became friends at McClatchy High School and hung out at Pete’s pizza in midtown. Two of them went to Sacramento State University and one will be remembered at a local Methodist church.
Friends in Low Places explores the evolution of lifelong friendships and how they withstand the strains of human failures. It follows a group of five friends as they take the same annual trip to Huntington Lake (prior to last year’s devastating Creek Fire) above Fresno for nearly 20 years. This year’s trip is without their organizer Jim, who’s now contained in a box of ashes and a ratty notebook where he chronicled their previous adventures. Over the course of their final weekend together, they will read Jim’s journal through his eyes, reliving their shared laughter, life moments, revelations, and regret while coming to accept their grief. Friends in Low Places is a funny, poignant, sometimes heartbreaking portrayal of male relationships and the support they provide as boys mature into men.
The Prairies Book Review called it, “A stirring, inspiring celebration of friendship...”
“It is often easy to forget the importance of the bonds and the friendships we develop in life, especially when we are young and still figuring out what life is all about. Vince Wetzel has masterfully captured the ups and downs and evolutions of those friendships, and how fortunate we are to have them last well into our adulthood. This book is a treasure,” said Rich Ehisen, local author and creator of the Open Mic series.
Pre-orders are available on most major retailer websites and direct links are available at www.vincewetzel.weebly.com. In addition, the first chapter is available for download, along with author testimonials and high-resolution cover photo.
Vince Wetzel is a 19-year resident of West Sacramento, where he lives with his wife and two children. He began his career as a sportswriter for the Antelope Valley Press and the Oakland Tribune. He’s also had op-eds published in the Sacramento Bee, the San Francisco Chronicle and LA Times. Currently, he works as a Government Affairs Coordinator for a major Property/Casualty Insurer.
